An uplifting dip into the deep
fountain of all things joy!
A dog has more joy than most men.
We should all learn from the dogs,
those loyal canines who are faithful to
their human masters. A dog is one of
the most loyal creatures, literally
man's best friend. They are so very
content to serve, their whole lives,
loving their master. Is this not the way
we should be following Jesus Christ;
with as much joy as the dogs? I have
seen those dogs, wearing no leash,
sitting outside of stores and coffee
shops and the post offices just
waiting for their masters to return.
The dog is so loyal it does not need a
leash or a rope or any bounds to
keep it in place. The dog gladly waits
for that master's face to appear. And
'oh boy' what a welcome the man
receives. It could have only been ten
minutes and that loyal pet is jumping
up and down, spinning in circles, with
utmost joy to see his master. Only ten
minutes and still indescribable joy.
Can we learn much from the dog?
Yes! If we had that same amazing
level of joy toward following Jesus
Christ, we would be lifted up to
greatness. If the servant is loyal to
the Master than Jesus the Master will
be loyal to us. There is so much
opportunity for joy I am often
speechless. God has flooded my life
with joy, joy, and you guessed it, joy!
More things of joy: Vans that you can drive and
sleep in while traveling the west, blankets that
wrap you warm, a good song on a musical
instrument, a brand new pair of socks, a popsicle
on the fourth of July, the lady bug that lands on
your shoulder, a cozy nap under a shade tree,
fresh oranges, hot cocoa after spending the
morning shoveling snow, whiskers on kittens,
warm woolen mittens, making snow angels in the
thick snow, a sticker on a child's face, rainbows of
God's promise, ducklings following their mother,
Sunday afternoon drives, a father teaching his
son how to hunt, giant pine trees, adding a new
Gold Fish to the tank, unfolding the lawn chair to
lie out in the sun, doing a good job and making
your boss happy, letting your daughter hold that
one finger while you walk, air conditioning amid a
hot Arizona summer day, keeping a secret for a
friend, finding wolf tracks on the trail, burying a
metal box of simple treasures, a hand- made
scarf, a great game of Chess that comes down to
the crucial final move, horseback riding in the
mountains, eating a healthy meal, going to see
Christmas lights, a barrel of monkeys, a live
nature show, sticking my hand out a moving car
window letting it ride on the wind, watching
puppies be born, jumping curbs with my bicycle,
cookies dipped in milk, Grandpa's Carmel corn
recipe, running through a corn maze on a spooky
night, hay rides, a jar of your mother-in-law's
peaches, the smell of a new leather jacket, cotton
candy at the circus, a glorious moment where you
are standing frozen in the middle of an Elk herd,
shooting a brand new rifle, taking Martial Arts
lessons, a kiss goodnight; these are a few of my
favorite things.
How to gain full joy: Stop needing! When you
don't need or desire anything, but choose to
be content with the gifts that God has given
you today you will then reach full joy in all
your hours. We keep searching but never
are satisfied. God has given you joy today.
You can be happy with everything in your life
today. Now of course let's be practical, if you
made a mistake, let's say you are in a bad
relationship, then joyfully and simply walk
away from it. Just turn to Jesus Christ and
give the problem to him, then go about your
day in joy. It is that easy. You try so hard to
obtain more joy in your life that you end up
wasting more time instead. God has put all
the joy you need in front of you right now.
Maybe the world has you tricked into
thinking you need a shiny car, or a bigger
house, or more money, or a new set of golf
clubs, or whatever; but those are not things
of God. God tells us to be content with the
car we already have or the house we
already have or the old set of golf clubs or
whatever in our lives. If God wants us to
have better he will make it so. We need to
stop trying to control every aspect of our
lives and literally wait on the Lord to tell us
the next step. He will never steer you wrong,
it is impossible; God is perfect. Find joy
today, find joy today; open your eyes to the
blessings you have today. Be content, no
longer need, but instead accept what God
gives you and enjoy what he already has.
I meditate on all things joy. Anything can be a
joy; it is only a matter of how you perceive each
thing to be. So I meditate on joy. A new roll of
toilet paper, a night in a hotel room simply
relaxing, firemen and police officers, a red
ribbon, a beautiful dress, a telephone call
bringing good news, a cold glass of milk, cheese
and crackers, a toy sword, a riding lawn mower,
foresight, insight, simply sight, a hooded shirt,
cargo pockets, a perfect sized hiking backpack,
your favorite song on the radio, photography
supplies, a pet ferret, a porcupine quill, going to
a funny play, being in a parade, achievement,
throwing a Frisbee, seeing a grizzly bear in the
wild, electricity, combat skills, love potion, rockin'
and rollin', stretching, cuddling, potato sack
racing, bobbing for apples, yelling words under
water and having friends guess what you said,
an old classic car, a web camera, a baby's laugh,
snow shoeing, roller skating, standing up for your
beliefs, bringing eighty roses to a nursing home,
finding the golden ticket, winning a game of ping
pong, not missing a shot in a pool game,
balancing yourself as you walk on the metal edge
railing of a railroad track, riding in a train box car,
riding in an airplane, sneaking up behind
someone and putting your hand over their eyes
and saying guess who, or playing a fun practical
joke on another person that ends up being funny
for a very long time.
