As I descended the sloping, pine tree covered, mountain side I moved toward a stretching valley at its base.
The valley was filled with tall yellow grasses and a few solitary lodge pole pines that sat motionless for decades;
except for the occasional gust of wind that would rock them back and forth. White marshmallow clouds floated
along the blue expanse of endless sky. A slight breeze tickled the back of my neck as it refreshed me from the
summer’s heat. Several distant thuds echoed through the surrounding trees caused by age-old falling pine
trees. The sound was melodic as it told the stories of those trees long lived. I turned my head slightly back to
see my wife still trotting delicately behind me along the trail.
Positively Positive
Speak positive, act positive, think positive, and you will be positive. A positive attitude is like a hatchet splitting
wood. The more you chop into the wood the deeper into the core and center you reach. This is the same when
you have a positive attitude. If a person full of happiness and joy is around people who constantly are
aggravated and complaining, eventually the positive person will begin to influence them. The people who are
full of bitterness will begin wondering how the positive person is always so happy. That influence will become
like a well planted seed. A seed of joy. Like the hatchet; constantly chipping away at the wood, the negativity,
and there isn’t much that can stop it.
A Simple Blessing
On our way to visit my wife’s amazing family in lower Idaho the van I had come to love so much stalled and died
on the open road. I coasted to the side of the road and parked. I turned the key several times to try and start
the van, but with no luck. My wife, with her calm and understanding demeanor, sat patiently next to me. As for
myself, I was in complete disbelief. I believed it was absolutely impossible for my trusty green van that only cost
$1,000 and lasted nearly six years to ever stop running. I was fully convinced I would have this van for my
entire life, but reality struck; reality had set in on the side of an Idaho road.
For what could have been an hour I tried to start the van. I popped the hood and examined all possible causes
of the failure. And we knew it had plenty of fuel, because we had just filled the tank a few miles back. At one
point a kind stranger pulled over and offered his assistance. But still the van would not start. When there
seemed to be no hope for my green friend and long companion I slouched in the driver’s seat and stared out
the window. I stared into space as I recalled all the miracles God had showed me with my van. I tried to
conceive the lessons of wisdom I had learned from my simple life. And I wondered how this could be the end of
the van which had taken me all over the United States for all those glorious years.
Then I remembered the whole reason the van had lasted so long. It was because Jesus Christ was at the
wheel. I turned to my wife with a big smile on my face, “this isn’t the end! This van will start and it will make it the
rest of the way! Pray with me!”
After a good time of prayer I inserted the key into the ignition. My wife stared with anticipation; simply hoping. I
believed with every ounce of myself that God would give us another miracle. I believed and turned the key...
Facing Giants
Seek out your quiet place. Within your quiet place is Jesus and his simplicity. It is your quiet place, when you
slow your life down to a calm, restful pace, where you begin to understand the whole meaning of a blessed
life. A blessed life turning to the Lord for all your afflictions. The Lord is listening this very hour for you to come
to him. He waits for every one of us to cast off the sinful, troublesome ways of this world and find rest and
quietness with him. For with Jesus, the Master of our lives, we can stand firm against any challenges, any
heartache, any evil desires, any temptations, and any blockades that keep us from a blessed life and a
simple, quiet relationship with our loving God who constantly watches over us each and every second of the
day. And no matter what situations may arise, we can step out onto the field of battle and face any giants that
may trouble us. For our shield bearer is Jesus Christ and his strength goes before us.
Successful Success
Reflect on your quiet place. To obtain quietness and stillness in your life you must seek Jesus Christ and
your quiet place. By building a deeper bond, a greater relationship, with Christ you start living your purpose;
joyfully overflowing with God’s blessings. You overcome obstacles and defeat troubles. Your life takes on
more meaning. You have renewed strength to obtain goals and fulfill realistic dreams. And you learn to walk
in the love of Jesus Christ.
