How did you start your day? Where was your focus today and what did
you seek? Yawn, yawn- I need to hurry and eat breakfast, I need to take
the dog out, I need to pack a lunch, I do not want to be late for work, I gotta
drink my coffee and smoke my cigarette, I should tell the neighbors they
need to stop parking on my side of the street, I am running late and some
stupid person is driving too slow in front of me, I need to look good in front
of the boss, I can’t believe my coworker is so lazy- I hate them, I should buy
a lotto ticket after work so I can get rich, some idiot cut me off in traffic- I am
in a hurry to get home, my new favorite show is on television- I must see it,
my spouse is nagging me again- can you help me with this and with that: I
am busy- can’t they see that, I need to go to the store- there is a big sale
that only happens once a year, I got a holiday card in the mail- I wish there
had been money in it, now I have to wait in this long store line- why do
people take so long- can’t they see I am in a hurry- this is a ten items only
line bub, I am tired, I am upset, I feel unfulfilled today, I- I- I deserve better
and expect it to be handed to me just like that.
Wow, that was all exhausting. But that is how many people live their
lives now; fast, fast, fast. They are distracted by everything in their paths,
all the shiny objects of this world. They are distracted by all the fake gotta-
do tasks that pour like rain on us every day. Many people are caught up in
achieving the desires of this world and they have lost their focus on all that
is good in God. And as much as you would like to avoid admitting it you are
most likely one of those people who are daily distracted from what is
actually important. Your life is being choked by sticky notes and to-do lists.
I have even seen people who keep sticky notes to remind them of their
other sticky notes. One giant pool of responsibilities that are impossible to
achieve.
I laugh out loud. Jesus Christ is free and always has been. He is always
listening, always giving good advice, and always freely guiding in the right
direction. Yet some people think that throwing money at a problem will
solve it. Foolishness! Now you are only angry again because you are
broke.
Jesus Christ came into the world, the very Son of God, a part of the
Maker himself, and preached the gospel to mankind. He was ridiculed and
rejected, flogged and beaten, and nailed to hang upon a cross. And he did
all this for us; he did all this for you, your neighbor, your grumpy boss, the
drunk homeless man, the politician, the hippie who smokes pot, the kid
who thinks his pants need to hang to his knees, the prostitute, the man in
cell number 321, the trucker who spends too much time from his family, the
woman who screams at her husband and drags her children through the
store by squeezing their arms, that guy in a suit and tie trying to get ahead
in his career, and every single solitary human being from Adam to the end.
Look around you as you go about your day. Watch the people as
they move on by you. They really are walking backwards. They are
chasing temporary indulgences. They must get the shiny objects to fill
up their lives. They rush to the sales at the stores who only sell
worthless junk. They go home and fight with their families when they
should all be out having joyful adventures together. They chase money
and try to get rich when success is already in front of their faces. The
people do not even realize that success is something that comes from
within us. God has already put the contentment and happiness into us.
We need only look inside. After we find that peace and that daily
success we can then enjoy everything else. We will then understand
that nothing else can affect us because our joy and contentment and
happiness did not come from the outside world; it all came from God
working through us. It always makes me laugh when I read something
that someone wrote and it practically has the same meaning as what is
written in the Bible. I once read: true happiness comes from helping
other people. Hey, doesn’t the Bible say we should help our neighbors
and God will then bless us too? Of course it does, but the part that
gets us is that the person who wrote that doesn’t want anything to do
with God. Sad but true.
No boundaries, no walls, no limits, no end, no stopping; your faith should be flying as high as a jet airliner.
Your faith should be riding on the wings of an eagle. Your faith should be like a space shuttle, rocketing
straight up to heaven. You should have no limitations on your relationship with God! Every day should be
a new and exciting adventure. We cannot afford to fall asleep during the sermons in our lives. Losers in
the faith fall asleep, but you are a winner in Jesus Christ. You are a winner in the spiritual warfare, the
spiritual journey, and the spiritual magnificence of the Lord your God! Get up today, this very hour, and
shout with enthusiasm for the Lord is with you. The Lord is always with you. He has never left your side.
You are what you choose to become. So become your best in Christ and lift up your fists into the air with
deep and energetic conviction.
Step out of the way world, a follower of Jesus Christ is coming through! Look at Jesus as he was
sitting on that cross. The Bible tells us that Jesus despised the cross but he still endured it. He still
conquered that cross and fulfilled his promise to mankind. Half the reason you are not daily convicted in
following Christ is because you have trained yourself to be a bit selfish. You want to be following the Lord
on your own terms and only when everything is good enough for you. You are not considering what is
good for God. Do you think it was good for Jesus the man to be nailed to a cross? Of course it wasn’t
good for him, but Jesus did it anyway. He knew it was God’s way of being spiritually strong. Jesus didn’t sit
upon that cross and whine and cry in misery. He didn’t look around and get angry that all the people he
had helped didn’t show up to see his crucifixion. Jesus knew that he was doing the Lord’s will and that is
all that mattered. Jesus knew he was making history and providing salvation for all people. Jesus knew
and even though it was not the way he wanted things to be done he continued in conviction for the Lord.
